On February 16, 2023, the Chinese Government officially handed over a new forensic autopsy laboratory to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) during a ceremony held at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara.
The facility, valued at SBD 2 million, includes SBD 600,000 in infrastructure and SBD 1.4 million in medical and forensic equipment.
The laboratory is the first of its kind in Solomon Islands and is equipped with advanced systems for forensic anatomy, evidence collection, photography, sterilization, ventilation, and cooling.
It is expected to significantly enhance the RSIPF’s investigative and evidence-gathering capacity while also supporting the diagnostic work of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) at NRH.
