Grant Description

On June 8, 2023, the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar signed "The Agreement on the Transfer of Fund for Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund (2023) Projects." One of these projects was the project "Gravity Flow System with Treatment Plant and Distribution Pipeline Network," which the Myanmar Ministry for Cooperatives received an unspecified amount of money to implement.

The project's goal is to improve access to clean water in Myanmar's Shan State and reduce dependence on often unpotable tidal water.

Implementation involved the construction of pipelines from forest springs on hilltops to 3 villages in Nyaungshwe, Yatsauk, and Loilem townships respectively. Media reported that the project benefitted 1,627 individuals from 369 households.
