In 2023, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) received USD 2.8 million from the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund for 13 projects: (1) a project to connect and enhance herbal competencies in the Mekong Basin region with green technology (2) The MLC-MSME Recovery Network Post COVID-19 project (3) a project to provide opportunities for small electric vehicles in the Mekong-Lancang region supply chain (see Record ID#108736) (4) a project to restore cultural heritage tourism routes from Yunnan to Southeast Asia (5) a project to develop and demonstrate a data recognition and detection system for beef cattle farming and farm management in the Mekong-Lancang region (6) a project on cooperation to explore and develop the potential of using herbs in Thai and Chinese traditional medicine for alternative treatment of cancer. (7) a project on technical cooperation on the comprehensive production chain of new breeding between Thailand and China to improve people’s livelihood. (8) a project on studying the impact of the China-Laos-Thailand high-speed railway under the New Silk Road Strategy, One Belt, One Road on the dimensions of social cooperation and people’s livelihood. (9) a project on enhancing the potential of mental health personnel to reduce depression in adolescents in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Cambodia. (10) a project on promoting sustainable cassava production using technology and innovation in the Mekong region (see Record ID#108771) (11) a project on enhancing the technological capacity of domestic industries and preparing the draft of product standards according to the requirements of the high-speed railway project (see Record ID#108773) (12) a project on technology transfer and knowledge exchange on edible mushrooms for sustainable economic and agricultural development among countries in the Mekong region (see Record ID#108772) (13) a project on water resources management for sustainable rehabilitation and development.
MHESI has provided funds to the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) -- a government agency established to promote the development in science and technology under MHESI -- for the project on enhancing the technological capacity of domestic industries and preparing the draft of product standards according to the requirements of the high-speed railway project, the project on promoting sustainable cassava production, and the project on technology transfer and knowledge exchange on edible mushrooms for sustainable economic and agricultural development.
A launch ceremony for the 2023 projects was held on March 23, 2023.
On October 31, 2023, the Thai Secretariat of the Cabinet approved the draft Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Projects under the Mekong-Lancang Special Fund for the Year 2023. Then, on February 5, 2024, MHESI held an opening ceremony for the projects.
