Grant Description

On June 1, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Mauritania donated "love bags" to 67 orphans at the Naim Child Protection and Social Integration Center in Nouakchott.

The donation took place as part of the "China-Africa Hand in Hand to Warm Children's Hearts" initiative, an annual campaign launched by Professor Peng Liyuan, the First Lady of China, in partnership with the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).

The initiative aims to promote child welfare and support vulnerable children through health, education, and material assistance.

The donation ceremony marked International Children's Day and was attended by Counselor Xi Wei of the Chinese Embassy and local officials.

While the contents of the bags were not fully itemized, such "love bags" typically include school supplies, hygiene items, snacks, and small gifts.

This initiative is one of many examples of representational and development-oriented support provided by China to Mauritania's most vulnerable populations.
