Grant Description

On February 23, 2021, the Chinese Government donated 768,000 doses of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine, along with protective medical gear and ventilators, to the Dominican Republic. The vaccine portion of the donation was valued at an estimated USD $13,824,000.

The shipment was received during an official handover ceremony attended by Vice President Raquel Peña, Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, and Chinese Ambassador Zhang Run. The quantity and value of the protective gear and ventilators is unknown.

As such, AidData has estimated the monetary value of the February 2021 donation as $13,824,000.
The sources indicate a donation of protective clothing and ventilators, however it does not include a quantity. As a result, AidData cannot estimate a transaction cost for this part of the donation, and therefore has only coded the transaction cost to represent the value of the vaccine donation.
