Grant Description

In March 2020, China's Ministry of Commerce sent an unspecified number of agriculture experts to Burundi to assist in developing agricultural technology and human resource capacity.

This is the fifth group of experts sent to Burundi since establishing the Burundi Senior Agricultural Experts Technical Assistance Project in 2009.

The team of experts specializes in rice production, agricultural product processing, aquatic products, livestock and poultry, and soil and fertilizer.

To address critical food shortages in Burundi, the team traveled to 15 different provinces to conduct research on the soil and conditions, and introduced 8 new varieties better suited for the climate.

The team also used the Agricultural Demonstration Center (Record ID #57295) to promote new technologies and techniques for Burundians, working with Burundian experts to provide training. On February 10, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Burundi hosted a farewell party for the expert group.
