Grant Description

On August 22, 2023, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced China had pledged a ZAR 500 million grant for development assistance during the BRICS summit in South Africa.

The grant is part of China's assistance with South Africa's energy crisis, and was accompanied by a pledge for a donation of ZAR 167 million worth of energy equipment (captured via Record ID#107621).

The grant proceeds are expected to help with infrastructure repair, and to provide technical consultants for development from China.
