Grant Description

On October 14, 2020, the Chinese government dispatched the 18th Chinese medical team to Zimbabwe, consisting of 11 members organized by the Hunan Provincial Health Commission under the guidance of the National Health Commission of China.

The team was welcomed at a ceremony attended by Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Guo Shaochun and senior embassy officials.

The 18th team replaced the 17th and was based primarily at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare, where it undertook clinical duties, training of local medical staff, and outreach consistent with the work of prior teams. This deployment continued China’s medical cooperation with Zimbabwe, which has been ongoing since 1985.

The team’s mission lasted approximately one year before being succeeded by the 19th Chinese medical team.

📋 Staff Comments

1. AidData assumes the project was completed in October 2021, consistent with the typical one-year rotation of Chinese medical teams to Zimbabwe. The 18th team was succeeded by the 19th team.
