On June 27, 2023, Chinese Ambassador Ding Yonghua attended the closing ceremony of a Chinese-funded, two-week intensive life-skills training program. More than 300 women from the East Choiseul Constituency (ECC) participated in and completed the training.
The training was organized by the ECC Office and facilitated by Madam Emmy Sogavare, with support from the PRC Embassy in Honiara.
The program offered instruction in sewing, machine troubleshooting, baking, floral design, and other practical skills aimed at increasing women's self-reliance and income-generating potential.
This initiative is part of the Chinese Government’s broader Rural Development Assistance Program in the Solomon Islands, and was described by local leaders as the first large-scale training of its kind for women in the constituency.
Since 2019, East Choiseul Constituency (ECC) has received an estimated SBD $4 million worth of development support from the People’s Republic of China.
