On October 26, 2023, the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) signed exchange letters with Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Finance to provide RMB 22.75 million (approximately US$3.21 million) in grant funding for the Juncao Technical Assistance Project. The signing was officiated by CIDCA Vice Chairman Tang Wenhong and Zimbabwean Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube.
Zimbabwe will contribute an additional RMB 1.3 million toward implementation.
The 3-year project will be focused on improving food and nutrition security through the introduction of drought-resistant mushroom cultivation technology to rural areas.
It will include support for mushroom variety selection and breeding, planting, demonstration, production and processing, organic fertilizer development, water and soil conservation, technical training, and extension services.
The project will be jointly implemented by Chinese experts and a project coordinator from the Government of Zimbabwe, under the supervision of the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development. Project activities will be based at Gwebi Technical College.
The signing ceremony was held alongside a second agreement for the Juncao Technical Assistance Project (see Record ID#107863).
