On May 20, 2023, the Chinese government sent a ten-person ophthalmology medical team from to N'Djamena, Chad, to work in the China-Chad Friendship Hospital.
The team conducted free ophthalmology surgeries, diagnoses, and treatments, while also engaging in professional training for ophthalmologists in Chad.
They carried out about 302 free cataract surgeries and fundus disease screening and cataract screening for more than 600 people. The ophthalmology team members came from Nanchang University's Affiliated Eye Hospital. The medical team departed on May 29, 2023.
On May 24, Chinese Ambassador to Chad Wang Xining and Chad's Secretary of State for Public Health Zenabe visited the China-Chad Friendship Hospital to visit patients who had undergone cataract surgery.
