Chinese government dispatches agricultural technical assistance team to Equatorial Guinea in 2023 (linked to Record ID #s #62447 and #95530)

On March 31, 2023, a new Chinese agricultural technical assistance team was deployed to Niefang City, Equatorial Guinea, to continue operations at the Dumasi–Niefang Agricultural Demonstration Farm.

The team's purpose is to support Equatorial Guinea's agricultural development and aid its food self-sufficiency through personnel training, crop seed cultivation, and field trials. The project is implemented by Jiangxi Ganliang Industrial Co., Ltd. On April 4, 2023, the team was officially welcomed by Consul General Chen Yong at the demonstration farm.

Chen referred to the Dumasi-Niefang farm as a flagship platform for China–Equatorial Guinea agricultural cooperation, which had continued operating throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

He encouraged the team to deepen technical collaboration, adapt practices to local conditions, and observe safety protocols, particularly amid concerns about the Marburg virus.

This technical assistance project is part of a broader 4-year technical cooperation project funded by a $40 million grant from China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), formalized through agreements signed in 2019 and again in 2022 (captured in Record ID#95530).

Under this cooperation framework, 12 Chinese agricultural experts were dispatched to conduct agricultural research, demonstration planting, training, and technology promotion activities at the Dumasi–Niefang Agricultural Demonstration Farm.

The technical cooperation project builds directly on the earlier Dumasi–Niefang Agricultural Demonstration Farm construction project (captured in Record ID#62447).
