Grant Description

On April 28, 2023, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, met with Nepal’s Finance Minister, Dr. Prakash Saran Mahat.

During the meeting, Ambassador Chen indicated that China could provide approximately Rs. 80 billion in assistance for infrastructure development in Nepal.

While this statement reflects an intention to release aid previously pledged since 2008, no formal agreement or new commitment was signed at the meeting.

The assistance, if realized, would support projects such as the Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel and other tunnelways in hilly regions.

It is unclear whether this proposed aid includes grants, interest-free loans, or concessional financing, and no specific projects have yet been formalized.
