On January 3, 2023, the People's Republic of China donated five medical oxygen plants to hospitals in Holguín Province, Cuba.
Two of these plants were installed at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Teaching University Hospital in Holguín city, while the remaining three were allocated to the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital (two plants) and the Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital (one plant).
These oxygen plants are designed to extract oxygen from ambient air, converting it into medical-grade oxygen to support patients with respiratory conditions.
The equipment enhances the hospitals' intensive care capacities and allows for the filling of oxygen cylinders, even in facilities lacking centralized oxygen supply systems.
This initiative is part of broader investments in Cuba's public health infrastructure aimed at improving preparedness for respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
