Grant Description

On June 5, 2023, the governments of China and Tunisia signed a joint archeological cooperation agreement to begin an archeological investigation, excavation, and protection of Tunisia's Ben Arous Forest archaeological site.

China sent archeologists and researchers from the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA) for the excavation process, which began in October 2023 and consists of a regional systematic survey, exploration, and excavation.

The site was discovered and then protected during the construction of the China-aided Ben Arous Sports and Cultural Center for Youth in 2019.
