In 2013, the Comoros government decided to adopt China's digital TV standards and hoped that China would help it achieve nationwide digital TV coverage, which was the first in Africa. In 2016, the digital TV coverage project on Moheli Island was launched.
From November 5 to December 6, 2016, CBC sent a team of experts to install digital TV equipment at three sites, namely, the Comoros Radio and Television Center, Comoros Telecom, and Moheli Island.
CCTV-4 TV programs, film and television programs, Comoros Radio and Television Center programs and an Arabic TV program were transmitted to Moheli Island via submarine optical cables.
Through digital TV transmitters, digital TV programs were effectively covered in the capital of Moheli Island, Fomboni, and the hometown of former President Ikililou, which local people welcomed.
In 2023, the technical assistance project to the Comoros Radio and Television Center will provide Comoros with 4 sets of digital TV transmission systems again, raising the coverage rate of digital TV signals in Comoros to 75%. The inspections for this 9th technical assistance phase were implemented on July 22, 2017.
The Radio and Television Center was constructed in the early 2000s with help from Chinese finance (See Record ID#395).
