On September 5, 2023, the Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, launched its training on minimally invasive surgical techniques for 5 doctors from South Pacific island countries, including 2 Vanuatu doctors.
The two weeks of training involved classroom teachings, observation of live surgeries, the use of laboratory simulations, and an introduction to the latest Chinese version of robotic surgery, which uses a single port for surgical instruments.
In addition to targeted training, it combined academic conferences, telemedicine consultations, sending doctors to the islands, and other forms of medical assistance to provide technical support for South Pacific island countries. The course was organized specifically for the South Pacific island countries of Vanuatu, Kiribati and Solomon Islands.
The Chinese Project title is '2023中国(广东)-南太平洋岛国微创外科技术培训班”.
