On April 14, 2023, the Chinese Government donated approximately GYD 60 million in medical equipment to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and the Linden Hospital Complex to enhance tertiary healthcare services in Guyana. Of this total, over GYD 10 million in supplies were allocated to the Linden Hospital.
The equipment included an ultrasound machine, surgical gloves, syringes, a Native Full HD CMOS Camera, ophthalmic YAG laser, fibre choledochoscopy, and other advanced diagnostic tools. Chinese ambassador to Guyana Guo Haiyan, Guyana Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony, and the 18th Chinese Medical Team were present at the signing.
During the handover ceremony at the GPHC Research Centre, two agreements were signed: (1) a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between GPHC and Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital in China to establish a "Friendship Hospital" partnership; and (2) an agreement between the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Health for the 18th Chinese Medical Team to provide training programs for Guyanese medical specialists (see Record ID #107970).
