Chinese Embassy donates land survey equipment to Kiribati’s Ministry of Environment, Lands, and Agricultural Development

On January 28, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Kiribati held a handover ceremony for a donation of land survey equipment to Kiribati’s Ministry of Environment, Lands, and Agricultural Development (MELAD).

Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy Zhao Jian, Vice President and Minister for Finance and Economic Development Teuea Toatu, Minister for MELAD Ruateki Tekaiara, Minister Tarakabu Tofinga, and General Manager Wang Gang from China Railway Company attended the handover ceremony at Tobwaan Te Rikirake Park (Kiribati Youth Park) in Tarawa, another Chinese aid project (see Record ID#97255).

The monetary value of the donation is unknown.

During the ceremony, Counselor Zhao Jian expressed confidence that the equipment would enhance MELAD’s capacity for land surveys and mapping, ultimately contributing to Kiribati’s economic and social development. Hon.

Minister Ruateki Tekaiara acknowledged the growing demand for land, particularly in urban centers, and highlighted that the land survey equipment will strengthen MELAD’s ability to conduct surveys more efficiently.

He noted that the equipment would help address land space challenges and accelerate the completion of key government projects.
