On 17 February 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Jamaica handed over two computer-based driving simulators valued at ≈ J $2.2 million (≈ US $14,300, assumed currency) to Guy’s Hill High School (St Catherine) and Iona High School (St Mary).
The units, designed and manufactured in Kingston, form part of the embassy’s multi-year initiative to equip rural Jamaican schools with modern driver-education tools.
Each simulator features a full-size steering console, pedals, and software that replicates local road conditions, enabling students to develop safe-driving skills before taking the national licence test.
The simulators will be installed in the respective schools’ technical-vocational labs and incorporated into their Grade 11–13 curriculum for the 2023 academic year.
1. The only source to mention the value of the donation described the value as '$2.2 million' without specifying the currency. This record assumes Jamaican dollars.
