Grant Description

On May 31, 2023, the Chinese Embassy in Lesotho held a donation ceremony at Victory Hall in Maseru as part of the “Warm Children’s Hearts: A China–Africa Joint Action” initiative.

Chinese Ambassador Lei Kezhong, Senate President ’Mamonaheng Mokitimi, Foreign Affairs Minister Lejone Mpotjoane, and Gender and Social Development Minister Pitso Lesaoana attended the ceremony.

At the event, 150 Basotho children from six care facilities in Maseru received “love-packages” containing hygiene products, sanitary pads, blankets, stationery, and sporting equipment valued at M160,000. The 17th Chinese Medical Team in Lesotho also conducted medical examinations and provided medications for the children.

The initiative, launched by Chinese First Lady Professor Peng Liyuan and the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), aims to provide care and support to orphans and underprivileged children across Africa in celebration of International Children’s Day.
