On June 28, 2023, the Chinese Government donated 1,050 tons of rice and 1,050 tons of wheat to Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Public Service, Labor and Social Welfare during a ceremony in Harare.
Chinese Ambassador Zhou Ding and Zimbabwean Minister Paul Mavima presided over the handover ceremony, which was attended by government officials, civil society representatives, and local beneficiaries.
This emergency food assistance aims to support Zimbabwe’s efforts to ensure food security for vulnerable populations, including orphanages, institutions for the elderly, people with disabilities, and other at-risk groups. Minister Mavima praised the aid as a timely and meaningful contribution to Zimbabwe’s social protection programs.
Since 2002, China has provided more than 10 batches of food aid and has supported Zimbabwe’s rural resilience and agricultural capacity-building through borehole drilling, the establishment of agricultural demonstration centers, irrigation development, and dam construction.
