Grant Description
In May 2020, West China Hospital of Sichuan University was chosen by the Chinese Government, along with other healthcare providers in the Sichuan province of China, to provide personnel for the 23rd Chinese Medical Team to Mozambique.
The team was intended to be stationed in Maputo Central Hospital for 20 months while working to bolster Mozambique's health sector.
On March 19, 2021, the 23rd Chinese Medical Team to Mozambique began their duties at Maputo Central Hospital after a handover ceremony with the 23rd Chinese Medical Team.
The team included 12 healthcare workers with various specialties, including acupuncture, surgery, anesthesia, and obstetrics and gynecology.
During their time in Mozambique, the 23rd Chinese Medical Team organized the Spring Seedling Covid-19 vaccination campaign and provided general medical assistance to the people of Mozambique. The team returned to China in December of 2022.
