Grant Description

On January 27, 2023, in a joint ceremony organized by the Chinese Embassy in Botswana, the United Nations Population Fund's (UNFPA) Botswana Office, and the Botswana Ministry of Health, Chinese Ambassador Wang Xuefeng and the Head of the UNFPA Botswana office, Tlangelani Shilubane, handed over a donation of health supplies to Botswana's Health Minister, Dr.

Edwin Dikoloti.

The donation would aid in the fight against COVID-19 and ensure the continuity and availability of sexual and reproductive services and materials in emergencies.

The health materials would more specifically support the sexual and reproductive health of women and girls in Botswana and consisted of contraceptive tablets, emergency contraceptive pills, surgical gloves, examination gloves, isolation gowns, face shields, goggles, and coveralls.

The donation was made through UNFPA and funded by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) under the framework of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund.

The donation is a second donation succeeding an earlier donation of anti-epidemic supplies in August 2021 (Record ID #96921).

Thus, like the August 2021 donation, this one falls under a broader USD 500,000 project that is intended to aid Botswana's fight against COVID-19 and HIV, improve basic health services, maternal and childcare, and reproductive health services.
