Grant Description

On July 27, 2022, the first echelon of 205 officers and soldiers from China's 21st peacekeeping force to Lebanon arrived in the mission area.

On 3 August 2022, Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Qian Minjian attended the handover ceremony for the Chinese detachments of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

On December 8, 2023, the handover ceremony between the 21st and 22nd peacekeeping force was held, marking the end if their mission.

In the Lebanese mission area, the Chinese peacekeeping multifunctional engineering detachment is responsible for multiple tasks such as mine clearance and explosive disposal, engineering construction, medical assistance and humanitarian relief.

Since its deployment in August 2022, the 21st batch of engineers has obtained the United Nations mine clearance and explosive disposal qualifications in the shortest time, cleared more than 200 mines, completed the construction tasks of the UNIFIL headquarters with high standards, and provided medical assistance to more than 140 local residents, and upgraded the UNIFIL Headquarters gas station, winning full recognition and wide praise from the Lebanese side.

China has sent UNFIL peacekeeping forces to Lebanon every year from 2006 to 2020.

The program was temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 on June 30, 2020, but reinstated in August 2020 to respond to the Beirut explosion.
