Grant Description

On August 11, 2022, the Chinese Embassy in the Central African Republic donated emergency relief supplies to the Central African government to assist flood victims in Bangui and surrounding areas.

This donation, including 600 rain tarps, 600 blankets, 360 instant self-heating food packs, 300 buckets, 300 basins and 800 soaps, was handed over to the Ministry of Humanitarian Action, Solidarity and National Reconciliation.

The Embassy's Charge d'Affaires, Shan Chenglin, and the Minister of Humanitarian Action, National Unity and Reconciliation, Virginie Baïkoua, attended the handover ceremony.

In his speech, Shan expressed condolences to the people of Africa and China affected by floods, saying that "disasters are ruthless, but people are kind," and that the donation aims to help disaster-stricken families recover. Minister Baïkoua affirmed that the Central African government was grateful for China's aid to her country.

She announced that the severe floods affected around 5,000 households, of which 4,000 received government assistance. According to the minister, this Chinese aid will be used for the remaining victims.

The torrential rains on July 22, 2022, caused enormous material and human damage in the capital city of Bangui and surrounding areas, with around 20,000 people affected according to the Central African Red Cross.
