On March 20, 2022, the Chinese Government and the Government of Nepal signed an agreement for a donation of Sinovac vaccines.
On March 26, 2022, the Government of Nepal received 3.5 million doses, and on March 28, 2022, the Government of Nepal received 500,000 doses. The total estimated monetary value of the donation was $72 million.
The Kathmandu Post reported in December 2022 that many of the doses might not be used because booster uptake in Nepal was low and the government used vaccines from other sources for the initial doses.
1. According to the UNICEF COVID-19 Vaccine Market Dashboard, the price of a single Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine dose is $18 (https://www.oecd.org/officialdocuments/publicdisplaydocumentpdf/?cote=DCD/DAC/STAT(2022)33&docLanguage=En). As such, AidData has estimated the monetary value of the March 2022 donation as $72 million.
