On November 24, 2022, the Djibouti Health Minister Dr Ahmed Robleh Abdilleh presided over the official ceremony receiving a Chinese donation of 1.1 million doses of COVID-19 sinovac vaccines and a similar quantity of sterile injectable syringes.
The ceremony was held at Ambouli International Airport in the presence of the ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Djibouti, Hu Bin.
This second Chinese donation for COVID-19 vaccines comes as part of China's support for Djiboutian efforts to fight this pandemic.
Health Minister Dr Ahmed Robleh Abdilleh thanked the Chinese government and people for this considerable support for the health protection and mass immunization of the target population, including refugees and migrants.

According to the UNICEF COVID-19 Vaccine Market Dashboard, the price of a single Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine dose is $18 (https://www.oecd.org/officialdocuments/publicdisplaydocumentpdf/?cote=DCD/DAC/STAT(2022)33&docLanguage=En). As such, AidData has estimated the monetary value of the donation as $19,800,000.
Covid Vaccines: China gives Djibouti 1 million doses of sinovac Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
