On December 9, 2022, the Chinese Embassy in Jamaica awarded the Chinese Ambassador's Scholarship to 15 students at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona. Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, Chen Daojiang, presented the awards and delivered a speech.
More than 60 people attended the ceremony, including President Weber of the UWI at Mona, Vice-President Berkshire, teachers and students of the school, and family members of the award-winning students. Each scholarship is worth JMD 200,000, for a total of JMD 3 million across the fifteen scholarships recipients.
Since 2014, the Embassy in Jamaica has awarded the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship to students at the UWI Mona Campus.
Eligible applicants must be full-time students registered in the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering or the Faculty of Science and Technology at UWI Mona.
