Grant Description

On July 24, 2022, torrential rain led to a flash flood near the site of the Dasu Hydropower Station Project, resulting in the destruction of a bridge crossing the Uchar River and landslides blocking the Karakoram Highway.

In the following days, engineers of China Gezhouba Group provided equipment and expertise to help the Pakistan National Highway Authority and the Frontier Works Organization clear debris and construct a temporary bridge.

Efforts to restore access to the Karakoram Highway continued into August and September as flooding and landslides continued.

📋 Staff Comments

1. The bridge constructed by the Pakistan National Highway Authority and the Frontier Works Organization with assistance from China Gezhouba Group may have been destroyed in subsequent flooding on August 12, 2022, but this is unclear (https://www.dawn.com/news/1704469#:~:text=A%20temporary%20bailey%20bridge%20installed,the%20rest%20of%20the%20country.).
