Grant Description

Heat pump has been recognised by the International Energy Agency (IEA) as the proven technology of choice to decarbonize heating for residential and commercial applications. By transferring heat rather than generating it, they use significantly less energy to produce the same amount of heating or cooling. The demand in the UK and global market for more efficient and cost effective heat pumps is set to grow in the coming decade. We offer an innovative solution to this market need.

In this project we will develop a 20 kW air-source heat pump using our patented game-changing "rotary heat exchanger" technology. Compared to existing heat pump products on the market, our innovative solution offers higher efficiency, low noise, frost and dust resistance, and less footprint and material consumption. The higher efficiency of our product will lead to reduced dependence on primary energy sources and lower running costs.

We aim to complete and qualify a heat pump prototype in an operational environment (TRL 8). Comprehensive performance testing data will be collected. The successful delivery of this project will pave the way for business scale-up and further investment. The design experience and technology developed through the project can be applied to larger-scale residential and industrial heating markets, offering an attractive green technology business in an expanding and dynamic target market.
