The "Cow Efficiency Monitor (CEM)" study is poised to transform dairy farming in South West Wales through the implementation of advanced sensor technology. This initiative aims to enhance farm efficiency, sustainability, and economic viability by assessing the need to provide real-time monitoring of milk quality, feed inputs and cow health on a personalised cow basis.
Environmental benefits are at the core of this project. By optimising cow feed and detecting health issues early, the Cow Efficiency Monitor helps reduce methane emissions and decreases the need for fertilisers. This contributes significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, supporting Wales' ambitious net zero targets.
Economically, the project promises to boost farm profitability by improving milk yield and quality, leading to higher revenues. Additionally, it lowers costs related to veterinary care and feed, while also reducing energy bills through the integration of renewable energy sources. These economic benefits not only enhance the financial stability of farms but also stimulate the local economy by creating job opportunities in technology support and equipment maintenance.
The project enhances efficiency and productivity on dairy farms. By leveraging precise monitoring and data analysis, farmers can make informed decisions that optimise milk production processes and overall farm performance. This real-time data-driven approach ensures that operations are both efficient and sustainable.
