Grant Description

MAVReality is a UK audio-visual/videoconferencing software provider SME, with core project-team of Jack Worley (Project Lead), Jamie Murray (Technical Lead), Barry Darnell (Project Manager), Kevin Beetham (Product Tester-Lead), Mehtab Anwar (Product Tester) and Kian Miller (Product Designer). Subcontractor, AVworx (Oxford-based) is onboarded (integration architecture/beta-testing support).

Frontline-workers are critical in many industries (e.g., health, education, public services/order, transport) and operate in dynamic/potentially hazardous environments (International-Labour-Organization,2023). In 2022/23, the UK recorded 1,520 (per 100K workers) non-fatal frontline-worker injuries. Keeping their hands free is crucial for safety as unencumbered hands enable frontline-workers to respond quickly to emergencies/stabilise themselves/handle equipment without delay.

When frontline-workers are not juggling tools/devices, efficiency can increase and greater precision/error reduction can be achieved.

Additionally, 60% of frontline-workers want technologies to improve safety/efficiency while reducing stress, while one-third reported not possessing the right technology to do their jobs effectively.

MAVReality proposes Interop, a Unified Communication as-a-service application to enable simple/consistent easy-to-join experience (voice-activated collaboration/one-button access) to 97-99% of videoconferencing providers (e.g., MS Teams, Google Meet, Zoom, GoToMeeting, Webex).

Several companies (e.g., RealWear Connect, SimplyVideo, Cisco) provide limited connectivity from wearables to remote teams/videoconferencing, but this software is complex, power-intensive, and limited in call-duration. Additionally, current state-of-the-art does not function across all head-mounted rugged aR wearable manufacturers (e.g., Zebra HD4000, ThirdEye RealEyeAI, RealWear Navigator).

For instance, RealWear only works with Zoom/MS Teams and Cisco only works with its proprietary Webex software.

Due to inefficient integration/interoperability of current solutions, videoconferencing events could only last 20-30 minutes on average, where 74.5% of videoconferencing meetings last \\\>60 minutes. This industrial research project aims to develop a TRL6 MVP within 12 months.
