Grant Description

ALIANAz is a UK-based personal care SME, led by a core project team of Tanvir Ahmed (CEO and R&D central manager), Natali Georgieva (Project Manager) and Sara Rodrigues (Technical Manager).

Personal care products cause significant environmental harm for two reasons: their plastic packaging and high water content, typically around 80%. Plastic packaging accounts for 44% of all plastic produced, and the majority ends up in landfill. Meanwhile, the water content significantly increases CO2 emissions during transportation. UK consumers are becoming more environmentally conscious, with almost half feeling guilty about the amount of plastic they use.

There is an urgent need for solutions to address those challenges and support UK's Net Zero targets.

ALIANAz's mission is to promote a green future and foster environmental sustainability. It aims to introduce an innovative product format (dissolvable flakes) with reduced environmental effects and positively impact the Personal care industry.

This unique portfolio will be sold in plastic-free sachets. Consumers will dissolve the flakes into water in a refillable bottle to create a ready-to-use product with same performance and user experience as traditional gel-based product.

Formulations will be specifically designed to meet the diverse needs of different ethnic groups, such as a shampoo for Afro-texture hair.

The products will be cheaper than liquid alternatives as they eliminate the need for plastic bottles. The concentrated formulations will be equivalent to two bottles of standard product. The compact and light format will make them more convenient to store and transport.

This ground-breaking innovation will help combat hygiene poverty, support the government's Net Zero Strategy and align with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
