Shaanxi Provincial Government sends 37th Chinese Medical Team to Sudan in 2022 (linked to Record ID#102690, #102691, #102693, and #102895)

On April 4, 2022, a renewal ceremony was held for the Chinese Medical Team Protocol, under which 36 Chinese medical teams made up of over 1,000 Chinese medical personnel have been sent to Sudan since 1971 ("驻苏丹大使马新民出席中国援苏医疗队议定书续签仪式暨中国政府援苏医疗设备交接仪式").

At the ceremony, Sudanese Minister of Health Dr.

Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim and the Chinese Ambassador to Sudan Ma Xinmin signed the renewal protocol for the 37th and 38th Chinese Medical Teams to Sudan ("توقيع بروتوكول البعثة الطبية الصينية "37 - 38"").

On May 14, 2022, the 37th Chinese Medical Team arrived in Khartoum to begin their 18-month mission ("驻苏丹使馆举行第37批援苏医疗队欢迎视频会").

The 37th Chinese Medical Team was composed of 42 medical workers from the Shaanxi province of China with expertise in areas such as surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, dentistry, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, anesthesiology, imaging, traditional Chinese medicine, and nursing ("第37批援苏丹中国医疗队赴苏丹执行援外医疗任务，包含中医").

The members of the 37th Chinese Medical Team were chosen by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University as designated by the Shaanxi Provincial Health Commission ("二附院选送12名医护人员随陕西省第37批援苏丹医疗队出征").

During their time in Sudan, the 37th Chinese Medical Team was stationed across three hospitals: Abu Usher Hospital in the state of Gezira, Damazin Friendship Hospital in the state of Blue Nile, and Omdurman Friendship Hospital in Khartoum ("Chinese medical team in Sudan organizes ICU workshop to enhance medical technology exchange").

The 37th Chinese Medical Team also maintained a clinic in the Sudanese Presidential Palace in Khartoum.

In addition, the 37th Chinese Medical Team held free clinics (captured in Record ID#102895 and Record ID#102690), donated medical supplies (captured in Record ID#102691), and trained Sudanese medical personnel in preparation for the opening of an ICU at Omdurman Friendship Hospital (captured in Record ID#102693).

Then, on April 15, 2023, armed clashes broke out around Khartoum between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

In the following weeks, the Chinese government and various state-owned enterprises organized the evacuation of over 1,500 Chinese citizens in Sudan through various means, including by overland border crossings, commercial flights, and by Chinese warships ("这就是祖国，你永远可以相信她——中国政府自苏丹撤离中国公民纪实").

The 37th Chinese Medical team was reported to have fully evacuated Sudan as of May 2, 2023 ("西安两条地铁有新进展；这些人假期延长；天气有变！中到大雨→【5月2日周二 新闻速览一分钟】").
