MEMOCELL: Mechanobiological Exploration of Memory Origin in CELLular DynamicsCell migration is a fundamental process in development, tissue repair, and disease progression.
Despite advances in understanding cellular dynamics, the role of cellular ""footprints""residual cues left by migrating cellsremains poorly understood.
The goal of this proposal is to fill this knowledge gap by investigating how cellular footprints contribute to the memory effects in cell dynamics and their impact on cell behavior within the extracellular matrix (ECM).
Addressing this gap is crucial, as it could redefine our understanding of cell migration and lead to innovative therapeutic strategies for diseases where cell migration is key, such as cancer. This aligns with the EUs Beating Cancer Plan, making this research of significant societal relevance.
Recent advancements in mechanobiology and cell biology now make it possible to precisely study these recently reported cellular memory phenomena.
I believe in my ability to lead this project, given my multidisciplinary background in materials science, chemistry, and cell biology, and my established collaborations with leading experts in the field. This fellowship will also be a fundamental step in my career, providing me with the expertise in advanced cell biology needed to establish myself as an independent researcher and leader in the emerging field of mechanobiology.
Through this project, I aim to contribute to scientific excellence and societal well-being, while achieving my long-term goal of leading innovative, interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biology, physics and materials science.
