Grant Description

Moma Hilo, a London-based fashion brand founded by Penelope Tucker in 2024, embodies nostalgia and responsible manufacturing. The brand's name reflects the influence of four significant women in Penelope's life: **Mo**llie, **Ma**rgaret, **Hi**lda, and **Lo**uise---her Step-Grandmother, Grandma, Nana, and Mum.

Inspired by her mother's collection of treasured clothing that previously belonged to her Grandma and witnessing the nostalgia and sentiment behind each piece. Penelope recognises the need for a shift in clothing consumption. Acknowledging that three out of five garments end up in landfill within a year, Moma Hilo aims to change our perspective on clothing by creating a brand anchored in Nostalgia, Community, Craftsmanship, Transparency and Timelessness.

Operating on a made-to-order model, Moma Hilo opens its online store monthly with a production lead time of 4-6 weeks. This approach invites customers on an educational journey through UK manufacturing, fostering respect for the processes involved. With a commitment to creating timeless fashion that is adaptable to our ever changing bodies, Moma Hilo strives to produce garments that are treasured and endure beyond a single lifetime.
