The Neuroscience program 3I-COP (International, Interdisciplinary and Intersectoral Career-Oriented PhD program) stems from several observations: 1) The existence of a gap between public and private sectors, which do not sufficiently feed into each other; 2) The need to reduce the distance between fundamental discoveries and the development of clinical tools; 3) The necessity to educate students on emerging themes in Neuroscience, a rapidly evolving discipline; 4) The urgent need to improve communication between scientists and the general public; 5) The necessary improvement in the areas of equity/inclusivity; 6) The need for a strong alumni network to rely on and which actively engages in our training/institutions.
To address these significant challenges, 3I-COP implements: 1) 3 tracks (R&D, translational, fundamental research) supported by a specific and tailored training offer, Implementing and Associated Partners; 2) The use of a visiting scholars system to educate students on hot topics in Neuroscience; 3) Close collaboration with the professors of the Master's program in Scientific Communication at the University of Bordeaux; 4) The development of targeted tools to facilitate the growth and increased participation of our alumni network in 3I-COP activities; 5) Heightening awareness of inclusivity and equity issues at all levels of the program and in all partner institutions.
This ambitious and innovative program is made possible because PhD fellows (20 to be recruited) will integrate strong and world-class scientific communities and institutions, all recognized in their respective fields.3I-COP not only aims to accelerate research in Neuroscience in all its dimensions (fundamental, translational, and applied), thus contributing to the significant scientific and societal challenge of treating brain diseases, but also to instill in the new generations of young talents a whole new mindset that will serve as fertile ground for tomorrow's ground-breaking research.
