Grant Description

SCHADOC stemmed of regional actors’ will to attract promising Early-Stage Researchers (ESR) to the South-East region of France by offering them an interdisciplinary, intersectoral and international training program of excellence. SCHADOC is an essential building-block in the larger transformation strategy of AMU’s graduate education.

It aims to recruit 40 ESRs for 36-month thesis projects. Two calls for candidates will be launched during the first 2-years of the program which will be spread over five years.

Applicants will be selected through a rigorous, transparent, open and merit-based selection process, involving various independent national and international experts.

The selection process offers the possibility to grant bottom-up thesis projects proposed by the ESR as well as top-down projects proposed to the supervisors. ESRs will follow a training program both on research skills and on non-research oriented transferable skills. They will perform secondments both with a socio-economic and cultural partner and with an international partner.

CIVIS alliance will be an asset to implement this international dimension of SCHADOC. This ambitious doctoral training program will improve the employability of the ESRs.

Its success will be measured by the excellence of the research projects it will generate in strategic domains for the Region; the partnerships it will develop with the non-academic sector; and the attraction of a large number of international, talented researchers at the Aix-Marseille site.

The scientific scope of SCHADOC covers four thematic cross-cutting and interdisciplinary research axes which are in line with the priorities of the SUD Region:- Societies and culture- Climate change and environmental challenges- Health and well-being- Artificial Intelligence and its applications
