Aphids are a **significant crop pest causing up to 40% yield losses through the infections they transmi**t. There is an **urgent need for innovative solutions** beyond the current **over-reliance on synthetic, bioaccumulative chemicals**, which **lead to pest resistance**. This project **harnesses the microbiome** to **evaluate the feasibility of BugBiome repellents as a novel pest protection solution**.
This innovative strategy aims to **reduce the evolutionary pressure on pests to adapt**, presenting a **sustainable alternative** to current pest management practices.BugBiome has developed a **core platform combining microbiology, entomology and bioinformatics**. The primary **goal is to develop ground-breaking bio-repellents to protect crops from insect pests**.
Our approach is fundamentally inspired by nature. By closely observing and **understanding natural microbial communities**, BugBiome is set to **revolutionise the way we approach insect repellent development**.
