Our company makes digital theatre and interactive experiences, and we've realised that people really enjoy having more control over the stories they watch and listen to if given the option. We also saw a lot of people not offering audiences that level of control and interactivity, so we thought, why not give them that option?
Traditional interactive story systems often give audiences control over the narrative, where people can choose their own path through a story, but this can sometimes leave the endings you do reach feeling underwhelming as the more endings an experience has, the more chance there is of a disappointment. Also, having more endings stretches production budgets and creativity in a way that isn't very conducive to telling a good story.
Instead, our approach allows interactivity by putting the casting process into the hands of the audience rather than the narrative choices. Audiences are given options for who can perform the story for them and then their personally chosen version of the story is told to them. They can even change their choices during the story if they like, allowing audiences to have a level of customisation and creativity previously unheard of in most forms of media.
