Plastic bags and similar flexible waste plastic are notoriously hard to recycle. Which is why local authorities tell consumers not to add them into household recycling bins. Some supermarkets offer a service to collect this waste but often, due to the hassle, people end up just putting it into the general rubbish. This is how so much of this hazardous waste finds itself in land fill or our oceans.
Our mission is to reduce environmental waste by making it easier for the public to recycle. Our first product is targeted at reducing plastic bag rubbish. We want to design and manufacture a heated compactor for every home. This would transform all flexible waste plastic packaging and bags into solid blocks, that would be suitable to dispose of through the usual home recycling. Which, in turn, should have a dramatic improvement on the current situation.
By rolling out these 'Bag-2-Block' devices to every home (perhaps supported by the councils or government incentives) there will be a great opportunity to build upon the branding recognition of this hopefully ubiquitous product to create other services and products to help everyone with their recycling.
