The presented programme ""trainLSE: Interdisciplinary and intersectoral doctoral training programme at the Technische Universität Darmstadt in Life Science Engineering"" will lead 15 doctoral candidates (DCs) to their PhD degree within 48 months within the framework of a 60-month MSCA-COFUND action.
The doctoral candidates will carry out a research project in the field of life science engineering in one of the excellent working groups with experienced supervisors.
In addition, they will complete a comprehensive training programme for the development of transferable skills and scientific communication.
TrainLSE aims to establish interdisciplinary research and training of excellent international DCs at the interface between engineering and life sciences.
Experienced PIs will offer positions in molecular biology, chemistry, synthetic biology, materials science, (bio)computer science, physics and mechanical engineering.
The DCs will be able to uniquely combine expertise from engineering with life sciences and acquire a new constructive, engineering mindset towards biology.
These profiles will be in high demand in academia and industry, and will be crucial for the EU's transformation towards a sustainable, climate-compatible economy.TrainLSE will be embedded in the organisation structure of the Graduate School of Life Science Engineering and will be supported by a network of ten associated international academic partners (e.g.
ETH Zürich, University of Cambridge, Uppsala University) and ten non-academic partners (Merck Healthcare, BASF, GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung, Institut Pasteur among others) who contribute with secondments and participation in lectures or courses to the education of the DCs.
Thus, in addition to the unique interdisciplinary scientific training, the DCs will conduct research in an international, intersectoral environment and prepare their future careers in academia or the non-academic sector.
