Grant Description

TWISMAs overall aim is to boost the scientific excellence and innovation capacity of the Institute for Scintillation Materials (ISMA) and its high-quality Twinning partners - CERN and Institute of Light and Matter to develop innovative calorimeters for high energy physics (HEP) based upon advanced scintillation materials.

To achieve this aim, TWISMA will implement a research and innovation strategy over three years based upon five objectives implemented via five corresponding WPs.Objective 1: Conduct exploratory research on innovative calorimeters for HEP based upon advanced scintillation materialsThe objective is to develop a prototype homogeneous calorimeter based upon bismuth germinate-silicate oxides plus a prototype sampling calorimeter based upon Ce-doped garnet fibres.

Both calorimeters for application in HEP.Objective 2: Transfer knowledge between experienced researchers (ERs) of ISMA and Twinning partnersThe objective is to organise short term staff exchanges, trainings and seminars for ISMAs ERs and the Twinning partners ERs to complement the preparatory research undertaken in Objective 1.Objective 3: Enhance career prospects of early-stage researchers (ESRs) of ISMA and Twinning partnersThe objective is to enhance the career prospects of ISMAs ESRs and the Twinning partners ESRs by organising short- and medium-term exchanges, training workshops/seminars, summer schools, and a joint PhD programme. Objective 4: Improve ISMAs management & administrative capacity for European R&D programmesThe objective is to improve the skills of ISMAs Planning Department in proposal preparation, project management and innovation management for European R&D funding programmes. Objective 5: Raise the research profile of ISMA & the Twinning partnersThe objective is to raise the research profile and scientific reputation of ISMA and the Twinning partners through a comprehensive range of dissemination, exploitation, communication and outreach activities.
