The SANTANA project is dedicated to creating a portable optoelectronics module designed to meet the stringent demands of next-generation optical atomic clocks, which offer superior performance compared to microwave atomic clocks but are currently limited to laboratory use due to their Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) requirements and stability issues.
The project aims to significantly reduce the SWaP-C of the optical system needed for optical atomic clocks by introducing a novel laser design that integrates key components into a single, ruggedized, narrow linewidth laser optical source package. This package will be designed for consistent and automated manufacturing using advanced die-bond and optical alignment workstations.
The project is a collaboration between Bay Photonics, Sacher Lasertechnik, Technische Universität Berlin, and the National Physical Laboratory.
