Grant Description

Every year, approximately 600K women in the UK endure painful and traumatic childbirth experiences that profoundly impact their mental health. Such suffering generates a need for NHS expenditures of £52M in direct perinatal mental health support and lost revenue of over £16B/year in potential revenue related to insufficient assistance with post-traumatic stress.

DeskInternational is developing MOM360, a biofeedback-based device to better guide birthing mothers' pain management through personalised breathing support in an immersive extended reality environment. This solution is especially important to underrepresented minorities, whose need for pain management is often met with scepticism from healthcare providers.

The first-of-its-kind system will be directly responsive to the pain and anxiety needs of users, increasing positive birth experiences and reducing postpartum traumatic stress.
