Grant Description

On 4 July, 2016, the Chinese Government and the Government of Nigeria signed an RMB 1 million grant agreement for a feasibility study for the Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center (ATDC) Project, funded via an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement signed in 2012 (see Record ID#52630).

The date on which grant funding for the construction of the Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center itself is unknown.

However, the feasibility study was, apparently, successful because on August 18, 2020, China Railway 14th Bureau was selected as the contractor responsible for project implementation by the Ministry of Commerce's Agency for International Economic Cooperation. The contract period was 15 months.

It is also known that the project was worth 44,100,000 RMB The purpose of this project is to establish an agricultural demonstration center in the CGCOC Abuja high-tech agricultural industrial park (阿布贾农业高科技产业园区). It will involve housing construction, access roads, water conservancy projects, and ancillary facilities.

The housing construction is about 3,500 square meters, and the other projects are about 20,000 square meters.

It is envisaged that the ATDC will conduct agricultural cooperation and development research, full-course agricultural mechanization operation technology demonstration, water-saving irrigation technology, small-scale agricultural product processing technology, and water and soil resource utilization demonstration.

Construction was completed on October 15th, 2022. The formal handover ceremony took place on December 6, 2022.

📋 Staff Comments

1. The date on which this grant funding for this project was formally committed is unknown. As such, the date on which MOFCOM contracted China Railway 14th Bureau for project implementation has been used as an imperfect proxy. This issue warrants further investigation.
