Water is a versatile resource that is vital to human health, yet 2.2 billion people around the world (1/3) do not have access to safe drinking water.
Although abundant to the majority of the UK, it can be difficult to obtain drinking water to appropriate drinking standards in rural locations where properties are detached from utilities companies and reliant on untreated Private Water Supplies such as boreholes, wells and streams.
Purifying raw Private Water Supplies, and brackish or seawater, is a crucial solution to increase drinking water access, but seasonality and storms lead to contaminant, temperature and salt concentration fluctuations, fouling traditional purification technologies.
These limitations disadvantage rural communities, reducing economic growth in remote areas, as well as increasing reliance on plastic bottled water.
Clean Water Designs, have developed a proprietary high-speed, low-energy distillation technology, capable of treating previously untreatable raw water sources including seawater, to drinking water standards, consistently, with no consumable parts, allowing this vital resource to be available on tap to rural homes and businesses anywhere in the world.
In this project driven by user pull, CWD will: * optimise its thermodynamic system making the energy price/litre affordable and financially compelling;
* introduce an Internet of Things integration to enable remote data gathering, device improvements and maintenance cost saving; * Significantly reduced its Bill of Materials and assembly cost through inventive design; * Produce three demonstrator prototypes enabling extended user trials in a relevant environment; and
* Prepare for CE and Water Quality compliance enabling rapid commercialisation beyond the project.
Clean Water Designs will bring this innovative UK invention closer to market, acting on existing user pull and letters of intent from rural commercial properties in need of sustainable solutions to their drinking water problems, and set the groundwork for rapid commercialisation and future international expansion, address our sustainable development goals.
