Electrification of the automotive sector is essential in order to meet net zero targets.
However, the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) depends hugely on their performance, especially in comparison to traditional internal combustion vehicles. Particularly, charging time and driving range remain key concerns for customers considering transitioning to an EV. Gaussion is a UK SME focused on bringing magneto-enhancement technologies to the global EV market.
Our MagLiB(tm) technology range boasts substantial charging time reductions for EV batteries without compromising lifetime or warranty; our goal is to bring affordable rapid charging to the mass market by enabling 200 miles of range in 10 minutes or less.
The current battery market is dominated by cells with liquid electrolytes but enabling safe rapid charging has formed a significant market driver towards the development of solid electrolyte batteries, or solid-state-batteries (SSB), however, SSBs currently suffer significant lifetime and cost issues.
Gaussion has a well-established history of improving the performance of liquid-electrolyte cells and this project will explore the feasibility of our solid-electrolyte product range by testing on commercial SSB cells.
This feasibility study will provide an essential step that accelerates the route to market for Gaussion's MagLiB(tm) SSB product offering, thereby accelerating the roll out and ensuring the sustainability of affordable fast charging in the UK and globally.
