The global population is rapidly growing, making food security an urgent threat. UK food manufacturers are seeking sustainable and efficient solutions to enhance their productivity without compromising product safety and quality. The Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) market, worth an estimated £4 billion by 2026, offers promising potential for addressing these challenges.
In response, PlasmaFresh is developing advanced plasma disinfection systems for the food and drink sector, targeting business-to-business sales with top UK food manufacturers as the primary customers. PlasmaFresh's experienced cross-disciplinary team, along with their close links to key UK stakeholders, ensures that the developed technology will be thoroughly tested and validated.
While current market alternatives, such as UV decontamination systems, are less effective at killing diverse microorganisms, do not target chemical contaminants, and consume significant amounts of energy, PlasmaFresh's innovative technology offers superior benefits.
PlasmaFresh's products promise to reduce contamination more effectively, target a wider range of common biological and chemical contaminants, and cut energy consumption, resulting in significant cost savings for customers. The project aims to develop an innovative prototype and validate it in an operational environment, with project objectives including: (1) development of a prototype suitable for use in an operational environment, (2) validation of the developed technology under realistic processing conditions, and (3) demonstration of the technology with potential customers.
